Freimaurer Museum Schweiz

The [b]Masonic Museum Switzerland[/b], in Bern offers a unique insight into historical and current Freemasonry. Exhibitions from three centuries can be viewed on an exhibition space of over 300m2. The exhibition deals with the origins, symbols, rituals and values of freemasonry. [br][br] Freemasonry can hardly be explained or understood in a few minutes. A visit to our museum and a chat with the Freemasons, who are always available for guided tours and to answer questions, quickly passes by in an hour or two.

Description of the Masonic Collection

Two thirds of the 300 m2 is occupied by an exhibition that introduces visitors to the history of International and Swiss Freemasonry, familiarises them with its intellectual and ritual spheres, and demonstrates the impact of this perpetual, universal Order in numerous areas of public and cultural life. One third of the area is reserved for events and special exhibitions. A tour through the exhibition, which is constructed as a series of enactments which are clearly captioned to enlighten and inspire the layman and the adept a first-hand encounter with Freemasonry, the most important thing being communication. The museum is not only a vibrant and lively place but also a source of qualified information and most especially – a forum for discussion.

Our collection comprises approximately 5,000 objects:[br] [br] • Pictures, 10%[br] • Books and documents, 20%[br] • Temple furnishings, 5%[br] • Regalia, 40%[br] • Tools, 10%[br] • Models, 5%[br] • Furniture, 10%[br] [br] Various objects are temporarily on display in special exhibitions, and we store twice as many exhibits from our collections in the archive.
